Loose Skin

Lone Tree, CO 80124

What it is

Sagging and/or loose skin that has little to no definition or volume, due to the lack of collagen and elastin or muscle composition underneath.

Common Causes

  • Chronic sun damage– UVA/UVB sun exposure breaks down the collagen and elastin in the skin resulting in thin/sagging skin overtime
  • Aging– as we age, we produce less collagen and elastin which causes skin to loosen and sag
  • Weight loss– moderate to extreme weight loss can cause the skin to loosen or sag because the healthy fat pads that keep the skin plump, have diminished or shifted
  • Pregnancy– stretching of the abdomen skin during pregnancy can cause loose the skin as well as cause stretch marks once the pregnancy has ended

How to treat loose skin

Dermal Filler

Dermal filler can help with mild cases of loose skin. The hyaluronic acid (HA) that makes up the filler provides structure that is missing and gives definition and volume to the treated area. This can help alleviate the appearance of loose skin, and rebuild a natural balance. Collagen stimulators such as Hyperdilute Radiesse and Sculptra are also great for skin tightening all over the body and face.

RF Microneedling

RF Microneedling helps to tighten loose or sagging skin through the controlled wounds of microneedling and the tightening of radio frequency. This treatment uses punctures from microneedling to stimulate collagen and elastin production, all while using heat from radio frequency to tighten the surrounding tissue. 3-6+ treatments are recommended with yearly maintenance treatments to maintain results.

Surgical Referral

In severe cases, surgical referral to a licensed, experienced plastic surgeon is needed. This is so individuals can put their money towards a treatment plan to reach their desired goals, if aesthetic treatments alone are not appropriate.

*of Note*

Individuals with loose skin conditions need to see a trained medical professional to get a proper diagnosis first. There are a wide range of loose skin conditions, so seeing a medical professional beforehand will allow for individuals to understand treatments/procedures best fit for their concerns. Also, keep in mind that without continual care, loose skin will gradually worsen over time. No treatment is a permanent solution, rather a guideline for keeping the condition at bay or bettering its severity. See a trusted provider for a complete, individualized treatment plan, just for you!
