Facials and Peels

Facials and peels are treatments that are used to replenish, rejuvenate and resurface the skin.

They can be used preventatively, for maintenance or for treatment of a variety of different skin conditions such as:

  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Fine lines and aging skin
  • To moisturize very dry skin
  • To reduce oil in very oily skin
  • For uneven complexion
  • For sun-damage

They can also be used in combination with many other treatments for a more holistic approach to skin care.

Facial and Peel FAQs

What is the difference between a facial and a peel?

These terms are often used synonymously but can be quite different experiences.

A facial is usually a longer and more relaxing process than a peel. It often starts with cleansing and is followed by masks, lotions, creams and some sort of facial massage.

Facials can be catered to dry skin, sensitive skin, acne prone skin, aging skin and more.

Depending on the type of facial and exfoliation used the skin is usually left brighter and more glowing and will rarely peel or flake off in the coming days. Some redness and irritation is possible depending on the level of exfoliation and how sensitive the skin is though.

A peel on the other hand is just as it sounds. There are varying levels and peels can target just sloughing off the very outer layer of skin leaving your face glowing and healthy. Or it can target deeper into acne prone skin, aging skin, or generally dull skin.

Depending what type of peel is used the skin may be anywhere from simply a bit dry to whole layers of skin coming off a few days later.

Talk to a skin-care specialist to learn what treatment is best for your skin type and what you’re looking for.

Is a facial or chemical peel better?

It really depends what you are looking for. If you are going to a special event and just want glowing skin then a facial or light “lunch-time” peel might be best.

If you are trying to fight acne then there are facials and peels for that as well.

If you are trying to get rid of sun-damage or reduce the appearance of aging then both can be of benefit but a peel is going to make the biggest impact.

How much does a facial peel cost?

It depends on the type of treatment and how long the treatment takes. A quick “lunch-time” peel may start at $55 whereas long, complex and highly sought after facials and peels may be $200 or more.

Do facial peels really work?

Facials and peels absolutely work but depending on what you are trying to accomplish it might take several treatments or consistent treatment to work long-term.

Can a facial help remove dead skin cells?

Absolutely! Even just a simple, relaxing facial can help remove dead cells and increase blood flow to the skin. A peel can also remove dead cells and even safely remove the top layer of the skin.

How often should I do a facial or peel?

Depending on what you are wanting treated a facial or peel can be done weekly, monthly or every few months.

Are facials and peels good for your face?

They are very good for your face and your skin. As above, they can remove dead skin cells, increase blood flow to the skin, calm down certain skin conditions and generally improve complexion and glow.

What should I expect from my first facial?

For your first facial expect to have a consultation to determine what your goals are and to come up with a plan to meet those goals.

You can expect the skin to be cleansed and then depending on what type of facial you have a variety of other products, masks and treatments will be involved.

How long does a facial take?

Typically anywhere between 30-60 minutes but some may be quicker or longer depending on your needs.

What is a chemical peel good for?

Chemical peels are great for acne prone skin, dry or oily skin, aging skin, and to improve overall complexion and texture.

How long do chemical peels take?

A chemical peel can last anywhere from 20-60 minutes depending on the type of peel, the prep, and how many layers are applied.

Is a chemical peel painful?

A chemical peel can feel like a slight tickle or itch all the way up to intense burning on your face.

At Elite Medical & Aesthetics we do everything we can to make all procedures more comfortable and for intense procedures can use numbing cream. For these more intense procedures a consult with the Nurse Practitioner is required before the aesthetician may perform or offer numbing. Learn about us HERE.

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a facial procedure where the clinician uses a surgical blade to scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz. It instantly exfoliates and creates soft, smooth skin.

Removing the top dead layer of skin also helps skin-cells turnover faster for a healthier glow.

Dermaplaning can be done with or without many of our popular facials and peels.
